THREE CARD POKER ONLINE
All the reasons for popularity of three card poker in live casinos apply to online casinos, too. It’s just as easy to play, with a reasonable house edge and a simple strategy. You can play against the dealer, play pair plus against a pay table, or both. You can test your skills for money at online casinos, or play for fun and practice at free-play sites. In this chapter, you will learn the differences between playing online instead of in live casinos.
HOW TO PLAY AT ONLINE CASINOS
The three card poker games offered at online casinos have the same rules as those at live casinos described in this guide in chapter how to play three card poker. The differences come mainly in placing wagers, method of dealing cards and buying credits
PLACING WAGERS
In live casinos, players put chips in the betting circles and boxes. For online play, you place virtual chips on the betting spots either with mouse clicks or by touching the screen on devices with touch-screen capability. One common method is to display your credits in virtual stacks of chips toward the bottom of the screen. A total of value of your credits also is displayed in numerals on a credit meter. To make a bet, you click on a chip denomination, and then click again on the appropriate betting spot. For example, to make a $5 pair plus bet, you would click on a $5 chip, and then click again on the pair plus betting spot. If you wanted to add $5 to the bet, you could just click on the betting spot again. Extra clicks will add chips in $5 increments. As long as you are betting in $5 increments, there is no need to click the chip denomination again before betting. Should you wish to bet a different denomination chip, then you need to click on the stack of the desired denomination before clicking to bet.
DEALING THE CARDS
In live casinos, three card poker is dealt from a single physical deck of cards. A freshly shuffled deck is used for every hand. Online casinos also use a freshly shuffled virtual deck for every hand, but instead of physical cards, virtual cards are shuffled by a random number generator. Every card has an equal chance of being dealt on every hand. That gives us a game where the odds are the same online as in live casinos.
BUYING CREDITS
In live casinos, you buy chips by placing cash on the layout, outside the betting boxes and circles. The dealer will take the cash, count out the corresponding amount of chips, push the chips to you and put the cash into a locked drop box.
In online casinos, there are several methods of buying credits to use at the games. You can find details at the websites of the casinos of your choice, but the basic methods include:
Among the options for purchasing credits to play online are:
**credit cards
**paypal
**neteller
**bank transfer, verified by automated clearing house
In addition, cash can be used at live casinos to purchase credits for online play. For example, in the U.S. State of new jersey, online casinos have live casino affiliated, and players may buy credits at the cashiers cage at the live casino and have them credited to online accounts.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Three card poker has the same rules at online casinos as at live casinos
- Online players bet by clicking or touching the screen to put representations of chips in betting boxes.
- Online games use a single deck for each hand, freshly shuffled by a random number generator
FREE THREE CARD POKER

On those occasions, there are a variety of places you can play for free. They’re easy to find. Just type “free three card poker” in your search engine.
You’ll find the free play comes in a couple of different varieties.

You bet with mouse clicks or by touching the screen. Cards are shuffled for each hand by a random number generator. However, the credits are for fun only. You can’t redeem credits for cash. There are a couple of important differences.
INSTRUCTIONAL SITES
The goal of instructional sites is to help you improve your 3 card poker strategy. Most will supply plenty of free credits for you to practice. As you play, instructional sites will flash a warning if you make a strategy mistake.
SOCIAL CASINOS
Three card poker is not yet as common as slots, video poker or blackjack at online social casinos. Those that have the game will supply varying amounts of free credits. However, social casinos businesses, and they make money by selling you credits. If you run out of credits and want to keep playing, there is a charge.
Social casinos also will replenish your credits, offering free credits every few hours and sometimes extra bonuses. There are incentives to keep playing in the form of goals and levels, and some players buy credits to pursue their goals of leveling up.
Social casinos are not instructional by nature and usually do not flash warnings if you make strategy errors. Bottom line: instructional sites are free. Social casinos can be free if you accept down time when you run out of credits. At either, you’re playing for practice or fun and not profit, as credits can’t be turned into cash.

Online casino three card poker primer
While community poker games provide unrivalled intensity and the potential for huge profits, not everyone has the patience for the pace. Taking your seat at a hold'em or stud poker table in the UK can often end up being a huge time commitment. Fortunately, an avid poker fan felt your pain two decades ago and created a fast-paced poker table game with massive payouts. Even before the rise of online casinos, three card poker made its vegas debut.
When you visit casinos online, three card poker is rather unique as far as table games go. The game actually consists of two separate real money games: ante-and-play and pairplus. While at some online casinos, three card poker players must make an ante-and-play bet when placing a pairplus bet. We recommend sticking to global or UK casinos that let you bet on whichever part of the game suits you.
British players enjoy online casino three card poker because it's fast-paced and you never know what kind of odds you could be paid out at. The initial real cash bet is always just an entry into play, and bonus payouts are made on the best hands. Whether playing ante-and-play with pairplus or just one of the games, the deal portion of three card poker is incredibly exciting, as UK players may have already won before playing their hand against the dealer. If any of this sounds confusing, read on as we run through the rules. Although we've already discussed real cash wagers, it's entirely possible to play strictly for fun in the united kingdom.
How to play three card poker
When visiting a casino online, three card poker players will need to decide whether to place real money bets on both ante-and-play and pairplus or on just one of the games. You can make the decision on a hand by hand basis, although as mentioned some inferior sites do force your hand with mandatory bets. Read the rules before playing and opt for a united kingdom online casino that gives you the most choice.
After placing your bets, all players are dealt three cards, as is the dealer. Whether playing live or online, you'll be competing against the dealer. When playing at an internet casino, you generally won't see any other players at your table.
Online casino three card poker players who made a bet on pairplus will win if they have drawn a hand with a pair or better. The possible hands in order of weakest to best are high card, pair, flush, straight, three of a kind, and straight flush. Pairplus bets are paid out once the ante-and-play round has been resolved.
At casinos online, three card poker ante-and-play players have a choice after the deal: play or fold. If the player chooses to fold, they forfeit their ante-and-play bet. If they choose to play, a further bet equal to the original ante must be placed as well. The player's hand is now compared against that of the dealer.
How to win three card poker
When player hands are compared against the dealer hand, the dealer hand must first qualify. This means it must have a queen high or better. At casinos online, three card poker hands that do not qualify will be paid even money on the ante bet, but the play bet is pushed. Any ante bonus owed is also paid. If the dealer hand does qualify, then it is compared to the hands of continuing players.
Whether you play live in the united kingdom or at casinos online, three card poker brings you lightning fast action with a competitive house advantage.
- If the player's hand is better than that of the dealer, the player wins even money on both ante and play bets, as well as any additional ante bonus.
- If the player's hand is worse than that of the dealer, the player loses both bets.
- If the hands are the same value, then the ante and play bets are usually pushed.
Regardless of whether the player beats the dealer, an ante bonus is paid out on the best hands if a player chooses to play rather than fold. These bonuses are paid out on the ante bet only, but some web casinos offer as much as a 5 to 1 ante bonus on a straight flush hand. The most common bonus to be paid is a straight, however, which should pay even money as the ante bonus wherever casino online three card poker is played.
Casino online three card poker strategy
First up, the only strategy for playing pairplus is to find the top pay tables online in the united kingdom. Nothing more can be done to improve the odds of winning, as the only choice to be made is whether to bet or not. With that said, all that remains is strategy for the ante-and-play portion of three card poker. There are two schools of thought on strategy for online casino three card poker:
- Mimic the dealer qualifying strategy, folding on anything lower than queen high. This is easy to remember and is reasonably close to optimal.
- Fold on anything lower than queen/6/4. This strategy results in a lower expected loss over time than for the queen high strategy. It's one of the easiest optimal strategies to remember in any web casino table game, so try to stick to it and only fall back on the queen high strategy if you have a sudden lapse of memory.
Did you know?
Following your gut rather than playing optimal strategy will pay off at times. But, statistically speaking, it is almost certain to lose you more real money in the long run. When visiting casinos online, three card poker players should always follow a strategy guide to make the right move in every situation. Although the house always has a statistical edge, the goal is to put yourself in the best mathematical position to win over time. The best part is you can easily refer to strategy tables and this guide as you play online in the UK. Don't be surprised when you know all the right moves by hear after only a few short sessions.
Offline vs online casinos: three card poker perspective
Although three card poker is gaining popularity at live casinos in the united kingdom, you'll usually only find it at larger live casinos. Even so, the number of tables will usually be limited and you won't have the diversity of stakes that you'll find at casinos online. Three card poker is widely available on the internet and it's easy to find tables for every budget. As we've mentioned, you'll also find free games. Why not master or at least get a feel for the game before risking your precious quid. Besides who needs the pressure of a hostile live casino environment? Play whenever and wherever you want in the UK without even changing out of your pajamas. We think most british players will be ok with that.

Three card poker
The three card poker is one of the oldest gambling entertainments in the world. It appeared at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. On our site, there is a free emulator of this game. It will be perfect even for those gamblers who do not have a lot of gambling experience. This can be explained by the maximum simplicity of the rules. In the classic version of this gambling entertainment, the user is required to guess the target card. A similar strategy is used here.
Rules of the three card poker slot
The main card in the three card poker game is an ace of hearts. The game starts with three aces appearing in front of the player. It is necessary to remember exactly where the card of the hearts suit is located. After that, the cards are turned over and moved around. If a player is attentive, it won’t be difficult for him to remember where the ace of hearts is.
When the cards stop, you have to determine which one of them is the ace of hearts. To do this, just click on the card. The round begins after you press the play button. In the upper right corner, there is a button using which you can turn on or turn off the soundtrack. The music playing during the game is nice, but if it distracts you, it won’t be difficult for you to create the suitable conditions.
At the bottom left part of the interface, there is a cell in which the best result is displayed. On the opposite side, there is an information block displaying the current winning. Once a player makes a mistake, the current points are canceled. The game begins anew.
Winning in the three card poker slot is incredibly easy. As already mentioned, the most important thing is being attentive. The user needs to monitor the movement of the cards. In this case, it will not be difficult to determine exactly where the ace of hearts is located.
Three card poker game
The three card poker game is a popular type of the legendary gambling entertainment. On our site, there is a three-card poker emulator, which will be appreciated by the most diverse categories of gamblers. The game is available for free and without registration. In it, the user can earn winnings with the multipliers of up to 40 to 1. The emulator is great thanks to its convenient management, a wide range of bets, and additional profitable features.
The user plays against the dealer. The game in poker traditionally begins with making bets. This emulator is no exception. Virtual chips are used to make bets. They are located at the bottom of the interface. The three card poker slot has chips of the following denomination:
- 0.01 credits;
- 1 credit;
- 5 credits;
- 10 credits;
- 25 credits;
- 100 credits.
The minimum bet is 1 credit. If a player makes a lower bet, it’s impossible to start the game. One of the bets is an ante. It is mandatory. An additional bet is pair plus. The player can decide whether he wants to make this bet or not. It involves increased payments for certain combinations.
After the sufficient bets are made, the distribution process can begin. This is done with the deal key. Then the player and the dealer get three cards each. After analyzing the obtained combination, the user can give up. To do this, a gambler has to press the fold key. The play button allows you to continue the game. In this case, the player and the dealer reveal their cards. The winner is the one who has a stronger combination on his hands. In the money cell, the balance of funds on the gambler’s account is displayed.

Best 3-card poker online casinos

- The biggest difference from one casino to the next will be the payouts. I suggest you read our reviews to find the casinos with the best odds/payouts.
- If the casino lets you take the deposit bonus, just know that you’re going to have a hard time getting through the wager requirements.
That’s about it. Other than that just make sure the casino you choose is reputable and has banking options you can use.
How to play 3-card poker
At first glance, 3-card poker might seem strange or unfamiliar if you have never played the game.
But it’s a simple game to learn. We’re going to walk you through it now.
So the premise is this – you want to make a better poker hand than the dealer. Simple, right?
Each hand begins with you making an ante bet. Your ante bet (online) can be as low as $1, while most live casinos have a required minimum bet amount of $5 or $10.
After placing your ante bet, you and the dealer are both dealt 3 cards. Your cards are dealt face up, while the dealer’s hand is dealt face down.
At this point, you have two options: to raise your ante or fold.
If you fold, you’ll forfeit your ante. The hand is over for you.
To raise your ante, you must bet an amount equal to it. So if your ante bet is $5 you must raise another $5. This is something you want to keep in mind before you make your ante bet.
After you raise the dealer will flip his hand over.
If your hand beats the dealer’s hand, your ante and raise are paid out based on the pay table listed on the game. If the dealer’s hand beats yours, you’ll lose both your ante and raise.
But that’s only if the dealer qualifies.
The dealer must have a queen-high hand or better to qualify. If the dealer’s hand does not qualify, your ante is paid out at 1:1 and your raise (if you made it) is given back to you (a push or tie).
This means that even if you have a 9 high hand but decide to raise and play it anyway, the dealer has to have a queen or better in order for you to lose your ante or raise. If the dealer only has jack high then you’ll still win the ante and push the raise.
The pairs plus bet
3-card poker has an additional bet called pair plus. This is an optional bet you make at the same time you make your ante bet.
This bet can be any size (within the table limits). And it pays only when you make a pair or better.
Nothing else matters. Not even the dealer’s hand.
But none of that matters because we recommend you pass on this side bet. It doesn’t have very good odds (7+ percent).
Top 3-card poker hand rankings
When playing 3-card poker, it is important to understand what beats what, as there are a few differences in how hands are ranked playing this game compared to a traditional poker game. We listed the ranks below.
- Straight flush (such as A23 of one suit, or 456 of one suit)
- 3 of a kind (such as JJJ)
- Straight – (such as 789 of different suits)
- Flush – (same cards of 1 suit, such as A 7 T of diamonds)
- Pair – (such as 884)
- High card – (such as A 9 4 different suits)
Keep in mind that suits are not used to break any ties.
Final thoughts
To play 3-card poker you simply compare your three cards versus the dealers and see who has the best hand. It is a fast game, with only two betting rounds and relatively straightforward decisions on each hand. HOW TO PLAY 3 CARD POKER
Invented by derek webb of the united kingdom in 1994, three card poker has become the most successful of relatively new, trademarked table games.
An initial trial run in las vegas brought mixed results, but three card poker then broke through as a popular favorite in the U.S. State of mississippi. Today, three card poker is a standard offering in live casinos and online casinos alike.
There are several reasons players like three card poker:
- It’s easy to play.
- It has a moderate house edge that gives players a shot to win.
- It has two ways to play, and you can choose a wager with frequent payoffs, a wager on which you can win up to 40 times your bet, or make both bets.
- You can improve your results through a simple, easy to learn basic strategy.
In this chapter, you’ll learn the basics of how to play three card poker.
THREE CARD POKER RULES
EQUIPMENT
Three card poker is played with a single deck of cards, shuffled for every hand. That’s true regardless of whether you’re playing in a live casino or online casino. In live casinos, the shuffling usually is done with an automatic shuffling machine. Standard blackjack-sized, seven-player tables are used in live casinos.
The table layout includes:
- The three card poker logo
- Three card-shaped spaces in front of the dealer to place his cards.
- A circular betting spot marked “pair plus.”
- A diamond-shaped betting spot marked “ante”
- A card-shaped betting spot marked “play.”
- Pay tables for the pair plus bet and for ante bonus payoffs
- A brief explanation of three card poker rules.
One corner of the table next to the dealer will have a placard that tells you the minimum and maximum bet. If it says “minimum ante: $5. Minimum pair plus bet: $5. Maximum $100,” for instance, your initial wagers may not be less than $5 or more than $100 on either option.
RANKING OF HANDS
Three card poker is based on stud poker, but odds are different when hands consist of three cards. Because the odds are different, the hand rankings are slightly different. In three card poker, straights are rarer than flushes and outrank them. In five-card games, flushes outrank straights.
That leaves the following ranking of hands in three card poker:
- Straight flush
- Three of a kind
- Straight
- Flush
- Pair
- High card
There is no such thing as a full house in three card poker, nor, of course, can you get four of a kind.
PROCEDURES
All three card poker tables offer two basic ways to play: ante-play and pair plus. Some tables also offer optional side bets. This guide will explore those in chapter four: three card poker options. You may choose whether to play ante-play, pair plus or both.
To play ante-play, you must start by placing a wager in the triangular ante space. To play pair plus, you must start by placing a wager in the circular pair plus space. The dealer then deals each player and himself three cards, face down. After all cards have been dealt, you may look at your cards.
If you are only playing pair plus, you need do nothing else. There is no additional wager or decision to make. If you are playing ante-play, you must decide whether to play or fold. If you play, you must make a play bet equal to your ante. The bet cannot be either larger or smaller than the ante.
They must be equal size. If you make the bet, or if you are playing pair plus and have a winner, place the cards face down next to your bet. If you do not make the play bet and you do not have a pair plus winner, place the cards in front of your bets to signal the dealer you are folding.
SETTLING ANTE-PLAY WAGERS
If you’ve seen your cards and fold, the dealer takes your ante and clears away your cards. Once all players have decided whether to play or fold, the dealer turns his cards face up. If the dealer’s hand is queen-high or better, the dealer plays. That means ante and play bets all are in action. In order to win, your hand must outrank the dealers. If you win, you are paid even money on both ante and play wagers. If you lose, the dealer takes both bets. If the dealer’s hand is jack-high or lower, the dealer does not play. In that situation, your hand does not have to beat the dealer. Antes are paid at even money. Play bets are not in action, and the players keep them. If the hands are exact ties, the hand is a push. No payoffs are made, but the player keeps ante and play bets.
Here are a few examples of how the hand could play out on ante-play wagers:
dealer hand | player hand | result |
♦ Q ♠3 ♥ 2 queen-3-2 of different suits | ♦ K ♠8 ♥ 6 king-8-6 of different suits | dealer qualifies; player has higher ranking hand and wins even money on both ante and play bet |
♦ J ♠10 ♥ 8 jack-10-8 of different suits | ♦ 9 ♠7 ♥ 3 9-7-3 of different suits | dealer does not qualify; player wins even money on ante and keeps play bet |
♦ 2 ♠2 ♥ 3 2-2-3 of different suits | ♦ A ♠K ♥ 5 ace-king-5 of different suits | dealer qualifies and has higher ranking hand, so takes player’s ante and play bet |
♦ 2 ♠2 ♥ 3 2-2-3 of different suits | ♥ J ♥ 9 ♥ 5 jack, 9 and 5 of hearts | dealer qualifies and player flush outranks dealer pair, so player wins even money on both ante and play bet |
THE ANTE BONUS
Those who make the ante-play combination also have a chance at an ante bonus. You do not have to beat the dealer to win the ante bonus. It is paid anytime your three-card hand is on a pay table. The most common ante bonus payoffs are 5-1 on straight flushes, 4-1 on three of a kind and 1-1 on straights. There are other ante bonus pay tables, and those affect the house edge on the game. For details, see chapter 3-2, ante-play odds and strategies.
SETTLING PAIR PLUS WAGERS
You do not have to beat the dealer to win a pair plus bet. Any hand of a pair or better wins – that’s where the pair plus name comes from. There are many different pair plus pay tables.
Hand type | example | payoff |
straight flush | ♦ 10 ♦ 9 ♦ 8 10-9-8, all in diamonds | 40-1 |
three of a kind | ♣7 ♠7 ♥ 7 7 of clubs, 7 of spades, 7 of hearts | 30-1 |
straight | ♦ 10 ♥ 9 ♣8 10 of diamonds, 9 of hearts, 8 of clubs | 6-1 |
flush | ♥ K ♥ J ♥ 3 king of hearts, jack or hearts, 3 of hearts | 3-1 |
pair | ♠2 ♥ 2 ♣Q 2 of spades, 2 of hearts, queen of clubs | 1-1 |
For other pay tables and a discussion of the house edge, see chapter 3-1. Pair plus odds if you have a pair plus winner, place the cards face down next to your bet. When the dealer turns cards face up after all players see their cards and ante-play players have bet or folded, he will pay you if you have a winner.

History of the game
The original three card poker game was first created by derek webb in 1994. Webb had a vision for the game that combined the speed of regular casino games with the excitement that poker elicited. It was important for him to get threee factors correct for the game to be successful: large enough payouts to attract players, easy to understand game rules, and a good house edge that would attract casino owners. The game was first played in the US and later introduced to the UK by shuffle masters in 2002.
Three card poker is also known as poker three, trey poker, or tri card poker. The game started out as a licensed casino game that fast became so popular among casino players that some casinos began offering it under a different name to avoid paying the royalties. So, if you run into either of the aforementioned names, just know the optimal playing strategy is more or less the same, and the rules are similar across the board.
Three card poker is played with a single 52-card deck and is actually two games in one. First, the pair plus game allows players to wager on whether they will be dealt a pair or better, or not. Secondly, the play/ante game allows players to wager against the house (dealer) to see who has the highest hand. Some casinos will allow you to bet on either game, while others require that you place an ante bet before you place a bet on the pair plus portion of the game.
The play
There are three circles on the table per each participating player. The pair plus is the top circle where you can place bets for the pair plus game. Below it are two more circles for the base game, one labeled "ante" and another labeled "play." the game begins when players have placed a wager on the ante and/or the pair plus circle equal to the table minimum.
The dealer will give each participating player a three-card hand after all players have placed their wagers. Play will start with the player seated at the left most corner of the dealer and will continue clockwise around the table. Both the dealer and the players are dealt three cards each.
Ante/play
If a player has placed a bet on the ante, after viewing his hand, can decide to fold or play on. If he's not happy with his hand, he can decide to fold and lose his ante wager. However, if he chooses to continue, he must place an additional bet, equivalent to the ante wager on the play circle.
The dealer will then reveal his three cards after all players have made decisions on their hands. If the dealer has a queen or better, he automatically "qualifies." however, if the dealer's hand does not contain a queen or better, then all players who are still active in play will have their play bet returned to them, and they will also receive even money for their ante wager.
If the dealer's hand is a queen or better, then all active players' hands will be compared to his. If any players have a hand that beats the dealer's hand, then those players will receive even money for their play and ante bets. If the dealer's hand is better than a player's hand, that player will lose all bets. More so, in the rare event of a draw, all hands will automatically qualify and ranked above the dealer's.
Hand rankings
The hand rankings in three card poker are a little different than normal since players are only dealt three cards, rather than the traditional five cards. Due to mathematical probabilities of making certain hands, the hands in three card poker game are ranked as follows:
- Straight flush: formed by three cards of the same suit appearing in sequence. For instance, 5-6-7 of clubs.
- Three of a kind: A hand with three cards of identical rank.
- Straight: A hand with three cards in sequence of mixed suits.
- Flush: A hand with three cards of the same suit.
- Pair: two cards of the same rank.
- High card: the highest card in your hand
Ante bonus
You will get a bonus payout for holding certain hands when playing the ante bet. You do not have to place an additional bet to participate. You will receive a bonus payout regardless of whether you beat the dealer or not when you have a 3 of a kind, a straight flush, or a straight. The bonus amount will depend on the paytable values for your specific table.
Basic strategy
The ante/play strategy is quite simple. Fold whenever you have a hand that is a lower than Q-6-4. If you have a higher hand, continue and place a play bet.
The simplest way to determine if you have a higher hand is to compare your highest card with the queen; if it is higher, continue play and ignore the other two cards. If your highest card is a queen and your second is higher than 6, continue to play and bet. However, if your second card is lower than a 6, you should fold.
Pair plus
Your pair plus bet is based on whether you have a pair or better, regardless of whether you beat the dealer or he beats you in the ante game. If you have a pair or better, you win; if not, you lose-it's that simple.
Three card poker summary
Three card poker is quite popular due to its simplicity, while still eliciting an exciting time for players. Remember you are betting against the dealer and not other players, so you can easily develop your own cheering squad from other players who would like to see you beat the dealer.

Play for money at the best online 3-card poker casinos
Let me ask you a question – would you like to play 3-card poker online? Then you’re going to want to read this page. We’re going to show you which casinos you should join.
But what if you don’t know how to play? Don’t worry about that either. The truth is, this game is dead simple to learn. By the time you get a dozen rounds under your belt you’ll know exactly what you’re doing.
And that will happen fast. 3-card poker is a fast game. When I last played online I probably got through 50-ish hands in the span of a couple minutes.
So not only is it an easy game to learn, once you learn it you’ll never get bored of it. Especially online where you can play against a computer, which means you never have to wait for cards to be dealt or for slowpoke tablemates to make a decision.
(you’ll never be pressured to make a decision, either, which is great for beginners.) how does that sound? Well, before I get into how to play 3-card poker, lets first look at our picks for the best casinos.
Best 3-card poker online casinos
A couple things to keep in mind –
- You won’t find many, if any 3-card poker variations. However, what you may find are 3-card poker games under different names. That includes three card and tri-card poker.
You can play a lot of hands in a short period of time, making it one of the most entertaining and popular casino table games on the market today.

Three card poker has gained in popularity as an extension of the boom in poker. Both players and online casinos love it. Having said that, three card poker shares very little similarity with real poker. No bluffing is required in three card poker which is the core feature of poker.
Three card poker table layout
The table layout is the same as blackjack with the dealer one side and up to 6 to 8 players on the opposing side. Each position has the same advantage as each other. There is no difference in where the player seats at the table. And all players and dealers can see everyone’s plays.
How to play three card poker
In front of each player, there are three betting boxes. They are called: ante, raise and pair plus respectively. The pair plus box is in fact used for a completely separate game, which we will park to the side for the moment.
The player places their bet in the ante. Once all players have placed their wager in the ante, three cards are dealt face down in front everyone – dealer and players. After all cards have been dealt, the players can reach for their cards and look at them.
After reviewing the cards, the players come to a decision point.
- If the cards dealt will form a poker hand better than the dealers, then the player can place a bet equal to that of the ante in the raise box.
- If the poker hand is believed not to beat the dealers hand, the player can fold, thereby forfeiting the ante and lose.
After all the players have made their decision, the dealer flips over his three face down cards and creates the best hand possible with them.
The order of value of hands at three card poker are as follows:
- Straight flush
- Three of a kind
- Straight
- Flush
- Pair
- Queen high, followed by highest card lower than queen
Take note, that unlike poker the straight is stronger than a flush in three card poker. This is because with only three cards being dealt it is much more likely that you will have a flush than a straight.
Dealer qualification
For the dealer to remain in the game, he must hold a hand that holds at least one queen, or that has a poker hand. If not then the dealer loses and all players are paid out at 1 – 1 their ante, with a stand off against the raise.
If the dealer qualifies and remains in the game, and the player has a higher hand, then the ante plus the raise is paid out at 1 -1.
If the dealer has a higher hand, then the player loses the ante and the raise.
What happens if there is a tie
Sometimes that both the player and dealer will hold a similar hand. If this occurs then the second or third card values are examined.
Whoever holds the higher, second or third card will be the winner.
If there is an exact tie, whereby both dealer and player has exactly the same cards, then irrespective of the card suits, there is a stand off and the money is returned to the player.
So, let's see, what we have: you can test your skills for money at online casinos, or play for fun and practice at free-play sites. In this chapter, you will learn the differences between playing online instead of in live casinos. At online casino 3 card poker
